The House Ethos

Having begun his life in an orphanage, there are few things that can affect Olivier Rousteing as much as the struggles of a vulnerable child. That’s one of the reasons why (RED)’s impressive record of educating, empowering and protecting the most vulnerable hits home with Balmain’s Creative Director.

Balmain + (RED)

Olivier Rousteing has committed himself and Balmain to helping the organization raise funds for the Global Fund’s essential fight to end AIDS in our lifetime. Rousteing and Balmain’s shared commitment to this battle has resulted in a series of compelling and successful fundraising moments over several years.

A MET BALL (RED) CARPET

For the 2018 Met Ball, some important members of the « Balmain Army » literally agreed to give the clothes off their backs—in the hope that they could help raise as much money as possible for the fight against AIDS.

A TEAM EFFORT

Olivier Rousteing and his team created up a one-of-a-kind Balmain design for each star seated at the Balmain’s Met Gala table : Jennifer Lopez, Juliette Binoche, Natalia Vodianova, Natasha Poly, Julia Stegner, Alex Rodriguez and Trevor Noah.

DEDICATED TO (RED)

After shining on the Met’s famous red carpet, each of those exceptional Balmain gowns and tuxedos was donated by Balmain and auctioned off, with all proceeds going to support (RED) and The Global Fund’s fight to end AIDS.

THE TOGETHER PROJECT

The Together Project,’ is a unique initiative from Balmain and its longtime partner (RED). Intent on celebrating universal stories of love, intimacy and friendship, ‘The Together Project’ focuses on the relationships between different artists and the people who are most important to them – lovers, parents, family, best friends. Their stories, both universal and unique, are explored in distinct mediums and creations from different artists. “If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that we all still need actual contact, communication and companionship,” explained Olivier Rousteing. “Because when we are actually together, we are stronger, healthier, happier.”

MIAMI ART WEEK 2021

Working closely with two of the house’s longtime partners, (RED) and Live Nation, Balmain kicked off Miami’s 2021 Art Week with an ephemeral contemporary art installation from Saype, the French-Swiss art pioneer known for his one-of-a-kind creations that manage to meld street and land art together, provoking wonder, discussion and thought, before the works eventually fade away. Saype’s was created on the expansive beach set just outside the Balmain Pavilion.

THE LOLLAPALOOZA FESTIVAL (JUNE 2020)

Balmain and its partners created an ideal summer festival—a open-air picnic, taking place on the lush green grounds of the beautiful Hippodrome de Longchamp, with special-edition luxe picnic blankets from Balmain, a gourmand’s menu of choices from star chef Jean Imbert, Champagne from Veuve Cliquot and music from Lollapalooza’s special guest star, Crystal Murray. Proceeds from the special event supported the essential work of (RED), in the fight to end AIDS within our lifetime.
